If you haven’t looked at your website on a smart phone, you need to. Do it now, and imagine what the experience would be like for someone who is unfamiliar with you and your site. Is it easy for them to find your phone number and call you? Is it easy for them to determine what you do and what you offer? If not, then you probably don’t need to read any further!
If that’s not enough for you to make the small investment of a mobile website, how about this: Google has a separate index for mobile sites. There are far fewer websites in this index right now, making the competition for ranking much lower than it is out on the “regular” web. So it will be easier for your site to get ranked at the top. Oh, and did you also know that according to Nielsen, mobile internet use is growing 30% each year? By 2013, it is expected that there will be 134 million mobile web users in the United States alone, and at least 20% of American households are “mobile only.”
There’s also functionality that a mobile site can give you that a desktop or laptop version can’t. Specifically, you can provide your visitors with a “Press to Call” button that dials your business automatically; and visitors have immediate access to GPS mapping to help them find your location.
Global society is embracing smart phones as a new way of life. Businesses need to recognize this shift and give their customers and prospective customers information in the manner that they are seeking it.
