Solutions for the Internet

Thankfully, Spring is finally here!

Spring means many things to all of us, and for your website - just like your house - it indicates spring cleaning. Check out your site for anything that needs to be cleaned up, or out. Things that are no longer relevant to what you do, or are just out-of-date.

Spring is also a good time to look at your hardware support. If you're tired of paying for maintenance contracts that give you nothing in return, I recommend that you give Jeff Platt of Graphical Interface a call at 800-897-4470.

4 Reasons Why You Should Use Outbound Links

You should be aware that Inbound Links are extremely important for your website and blog - those that come from other reputable websites, of course. You may not be aware that Outbound Links can also have a place within your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategy. Here's why.

1. Higher ranking.
Google's mission has always been to provide the "most relevant" websites for any search. Your site can become most relevant for a topic by providing a well-rounded presentation: not just your piece of the topic, but links to all pieces. As Matt Cutts (Google's most famous blogger) said, "In the same way that Google trusts sites less when they link to spammy sites or bad neighborhoods, parts of our system encourage links to good sites."

2. Increased trust.
Yes, you are an expert in your field. You want to establish that fact with your visitors who are not yet familiar with you. Unless you wrote the textbook in that field, backing up some of your premises with links to other well-known sources can be quite beneficial.

QUICK TIPS

Recently Visited Pages
Did you know that your browser will show you a list of the pages you went to during this session - and if you want to go back to one of them - for example, five pages back, you don't have to click "back" five times? Or maybe you clicked "back" - but the last page was actually a redirect to this page, so you're still here! No worries. Just open the "Recent Pages" list and click directly on the page where you want to be. Problem solved! Oh, where is the Recent Pages list? It varies by browser.

Internet Explorer: Small triangle pointing down, immediately to the right of the back/forward buttons.
Firefox: Small triangle pointing down, immediately to the right of the back/forward buttons.
Safari: Click and hold the back button for about 1 second to bring up the list.
Opera: Click and hold the back button for about 1 second to bring up the list.

There are more detailed options available on all browsers if you want to look through your History - today, yesterday, last week. But if what you need was a page you visited during the current session, then the Recent Pages function can be very helpful!
